What we do and have accomplished

The Digital Inclusion team has been funded solely by the support of charities and businesses that have donated to Framework.

If you are reading this we hope that you will support us to continue the work we have be delivering to vulnerable people within Framework.

Read below to learn more about the need for digital inclusion, what our goals are and how we’ve achieved, current projects and a list of different ways you could support us.

More than 500 people have joined our sessions to build the skills and confidence to use technology for themselves. Each person learns at their own pace, with friendly support on hand, and leaves able to do more online than when they arrived.

“Loved the session considering it was my first, will most likely drop into the session again in the hopes of learning something new.
Suzy and Kevin were wonderful and very helpful throughout the session I look forward to learning more from them.”

To make it as easy as possible for our service users to access the internet, we created opportunities for service users to access internet enabled devices in over 80 different services and locations across Framework.
Using a mix of IT suites, kiosks and loan laptops, we have brought connectivity to everyone who uses these services.

Using Chrome Flex and Google management console we have created a safe managed network where we can promote resources and materials to anyone using one of our laptops. This also allows us to run all our laptops on managed guests sessions which will clear each users data after use, allowing our service users to use our devices safely and securely.

Our devices are used thousands of times a year. Each session is a chance to search for housing, apply for jobs, learn something new or get support. Having a device in the service they already use means people can get online without barriers.

While I’ve always had a phone that could access the internet, I’ve found laptops far easier to use and navigate. Removing this barrier has brought about significant improvements in my overall well-being. I discovered and took up volunteering opportunities that helped me combat depression and learn mindfulness.

That is 14,000 hours of people using our laptops to move their lives forward. From job applications and online courses to benefits claims and keeping in touch with family, this time gives people the chance to build skills and confidence.

“Having a phone that I didn’t have to keep topping up meant I could call my kids
and let them know I was alive without worrying.”

With the skills and devices to access the internet, we create independence, build, confidence and gives people real control over their next steps. We want everyone who works with us to leave Framework with more than they entered, and through the genrous donations of our supportors we are able to do this.

A person who has learned how to use technology and has a device of their own is far better placed to move on and build a settled, independent life. With your support, we can help even more people do the same.

By directly allocating laptops to service users, we have supported them to enter education, overcome digital exclusion and make full use of the benefits the internet has to offer.

Having a phone with data allows people to make appointments for housing, health and employment. It also acts as a vital lifeline for staying in touch with friends and family.

Reliable connectivity is one of the most important foundations of digital inclusion. Without access to affordable, stable internet connections, people can be excluded from essential services such as healthcare, education, employment opportunities, banking, and communication with friends and family. Connectivity enables individuals to develop digital skills, access information, participate in online communities, and benefit from the increasing number of services that are now delivered digitally. Even when devices are available, a lack of internet access can create significant barriers, preventing people from fully participating in modern society. Ensuring that everyone has access to reliable connectivity helps reduce inequality, promotes social inclusion, and enables individuals to take advantage of the opportunities that digital technology provides.
